Infection of bone is called Osteomyelitis and joint is called septic arthritis. When treatment of bone and joint infection is done in time then the recovery is uneventful. Many times due to lack of medical facility esp. orthopaedic surgeon this cases go unnoticed leading to complications. In urban area where medical facilities are available, inadvertent use of antibiotics may subdue the symptoms giving false security to patient, leading to late presentation and complications.
Nonunion of forearm bone following bone infection
Six year old male boy came with deformity of wrist region. This had come following undiagnosed infection of his Radius bone (one of the bones in forearm). Due to infection one segment of the bone died and a gap was created.

He was operated in two stages. In first stage special machine called JESS was fitted and bone pieces were pulled apart.
In second stage bone from his leg was taken and put in the gap created.
Finally he had complete cure in form of shape, function of his wrist and the length was also reestablished.
Post infection nonunion of femur (thigh bone)
Master Raju 7 yr old male had undiagnosed and improperly treated infection of hip left femur (thigh bone). Untreated infection had weakened his bone which broke following a minor injury. This led to deformity in his thigh and inability for him to stand and walk.
He was treated with cleaning of his dead bone and Ilizarov technique(Russian Ring Technique).
If four months of treatment he had complete eradication of infection and he started standing and walking independently.
